Course Description

Who will benefit from taking this subject: If you liked the parts of Social Studies that covered volcanoes and earthquakes, tropical rainforests, global trade, the Polynesian migration, current events and working with maps, you will enjoy Geography. Content and skills Topics to be studied: 1.Geographic Research (Shopping Survey) 2.Extreme Natural Events ? Volcanoes 3.Sustainability (Dairy Farm Research) 4.Current Geographic Issue ? The McKenzie Country 5.Geographic Skills ? maps, graphs, sketches, cross sections, aerial photos etc.

To do this course…

Students should have an interest in Geography, including human impact and the natural environment.

 

What you do in this course…

You will study a mix of Human and Physical geography, looking at Natural Hazards (hurricanes and volcanoes) and how we cope with them, how the population is changing, and how we use resources.

 

There is a mix of Internal and External assessments offered.

 

This is a good choice if…

  • You enjoyed the topics in Year 10 Social Studies that covered environment, identity, current events and working with maps.
  • You enjoy reading and map-based tasks
  • You are looking at studying Geography at UE level in Years 12 and 13
