Course Description

To do this course…

Students must have an interest in History and enjoy reading and writing critically and creatively.

 

What you do in this course…

You will study the themes of social conflict and change, going through topic contexts that include the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the invasion of Maungapohatu, Black Saturday in Samoa, the Takaparawhau Occupation and the 1981 Springbok Tour.

There is a mix of Internal and External assessments offered.

  • You’re interested in history, and enjoyed the historical topics in Year 10 Social Studies
  • You enjoy reading and writing-based tasks
  • You are looking at studying History at UE level in Years 12 and 13

The Civil Rights Revolution: the children?s crusade, Malcolm X, the black panthers, American Indian Movement. ?20th New Zealand History features class struggle, war and empire, featuring 1913 Great Strike, Waikato, Rua Kenana, WW1, killer flu, and Black Saturday in Samoa ?Riots in Auckland in the Great Depression ?Struggles for social justice in Aotearoa: Maori and tino rangatiratanga, Polynesian Panthers and the dawn raids, rugby and racism.
